I enhance research and business with sustainable software
I have a PhD in Computational Chemistry, and experience with Machine Learning to develop novel simulations for materials and chemicals. This includes over a decade's worth of experience as a Fortran programmer, teaching and project management. More recently, I have become am now a Python programmer with certification to teach programming from the Carpentries. I am also experienced in developing software solutions using the AWS cloud computing platform, and I have a certification as an AWS Cloud Solutions Architect Associate.
My broad experience in science means I have insight into many aspects of chemistry, biochemistry and materials science, and the challenges presented by the need to simulate such systems using High-Performance Computing and High-Throughput Computing.
I communicate
scientific research to the public
I have presented my research at local and international conferences to peers in the scientific community, taught to undergraduates and post-graduates - including using digital tools to enhance learning.
I am a keen communicator and advocate for public science, presenting research to the public at events such as Cafe Scientifique, Blue Dot Festival, and Pint of Science. Furthermore, this has culminated in my role as the senior writer for the science and futurism magazine, CYBR.
I create games and media
I am one of the main hosts, producers and editors for Darker Days Radio, helming the podcast for 10 years, and having run live shows at World of Darkness: Berlin, UK Games Expo and Dragonmeet. Leading the show, I drove our contribution to the online convention – Virtual Horror Con 2021, producing and chairing media for the event. I was the lead host for the well-known series of Youtube videos, "Let's Play Kingdom Death", which even today remain one of the favourite introductions to the renowned boardgame.
Under the name of Darker Days Publishing, I have written, edited, and laid out a number of community publications for games. This lead to my recent work as a freelance writer for Cubicle 7 and Onyx Path Publishing, writing new content for games like Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Wrath and Glory, Soulbound, Vampire the Masquerade, and Changeling the Lost.
