Digital Death

Updated: Aug 9, 2023

Another month flies by, and things are progressing at a pace. So let's look at the last month of work and gaming.

Work

So I trundle on with my AWS Solutions Architect Associate training, requiring reading and watching a lot of material (all over again) and taking practice tests. It's strengthening my understanding of AWS cloud technologies and getting me to think harder about solutions for potential clients. Speaking of which, work is going great as I am on the next steps of more leadership and client relationships. Nothing concrete I can speak of yet, but it is good that my efforts, expertise, and knowledge are being recognised.

CYBR ISSUE 10

For issue 10 of CYBR, I delved into the concept of "grief tech" - Chatbots using ML algorithms trained on social media and messages of the deceased to enable people to talk to a digital version of that person. It opens up many positive and negative ideas as people deal with their loss, but also if we should be allowed to use these chatbots to delve into the supposed thoughts and secrets of the dead. Game Writing

More words are turned in, and more words are back for second drafts. Nightmare Empire has reached the hands of backers and The Deep Wild is on the horizon for Iron Kingdoms. Speaking of which you can listen to the latest episode of Darker Days Radio where we start to delve into the setting as a whole.

For another project, I was happy to get back comments on my first draft that was essentially what I was expecting, as I am a new writer for the game line, and so I was knowingly handing in work that had holes to patch. So the work continues on the next draft, but it's all restructuring rather than huge rewrites.

Hobby

Finally, on the hobby front, the Necromunda campaign has begun. Only a few games were played overall, but what has been played has been exciting, and a narrative is forming involving gangs and Enforcers protecting a dome from the raiders from beyond the hive.
