The year ahead is going to be wild, so let's just jump into the month that has passed.
Work
Currently at work, I am having a good bit of fun, having done some research, testing and POC that implements Elasticache caching for the system we are building. It's been a lot of fun as it is a new element of the system I can take ownership of, develop, and detail in a manner I feel happy with.
Hobby
This month, I finally finished painting my two Warmachine armies while I await my Cryx army order to arrive. I've also played a few more demo games of it and Necromunda.
With Warmachine in particular, I have been blown away with just how much fun it is as a game that scales from a quick skirmish to a full-on massed battle with many units. So many synergies and combos. You can almost see what GW tries to replicate with AoS and 40k, but it somewhat falls short because there is just something characterful about how Warjacks have arms blown off and systems damaged but are able to fight on.
Furthermore, while I had a family emergency last time, this time around, at Chillcon Sheffield, I will be there running demos of Warmachine. This week, I will finally be playing some Legions Imperialis, so expect some reflection on what that game is like in the next blog post.
Freelance Work
So the month has remained quiet work-wise, and as I said last time, that is OK. It's good not to feel like I need to hustle for work these days. However, there is some major news. I will be designing a new rpg, with musician (Cyberpunk 2077, plus much much more) Le Destroy, based upon her recently released graphic novel, "Trashumanism".
Austin-based artist Le Destroy took to New York Comic Con 2024 to announce Trashumanism: The Tabletop Role Playing Game. Expanding her bold, multimedia universe that already includes an album and graphic novel of the same name. This new addition promises to immerse fans even deeper into the Trashumanism experience.
The Trashumanism universe began with Le Destroy’s debut album, Trashumanism, where the 10 tracks unfold as visual chapters in the graphic novel of the same name and now introducing, Trashumanism: The Tabletop RPG. Debuting at New York Comic Con for her panel, “Groundbreaking Musician Le Destroy Discusses Trashumanism,” Le Destroy announced the story-forward cyberpunk tabletop game about building resistance and fighting back against the megacorps that control you – players will build their crews, sow dissent, and take back Capital City one megacorp at a time.
Le Destroy collaborated with creatives from various mediums to create this multimedia project. Her recent debut album, Trashumanism, included Producer Danny Lohner (Nine Inch Nails), featured drums by Josh Freese (Foo Fighters), and was mastered by Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, Garbage, Yeah Yeah Yeahs).
To amplify the music and story, Le Destroy created Trashumanism – The Graphic Novel, in collaboration with Grammy Nominated Visual Artist, Lordess Foudre and for Trashumanism: The Tabletop Role Playing Game, Le Destroy tapped Chris Handley. An ENNIE Award-winning roleplay game writer, software engineer, ex-academic, podcaster, and senior writer for Cybr Magazine, to be a part of the new addition to the project.
So yeah, it's pretty huge news. This, plus the upcoming work on Eldritch Automata, the wargame, will mean the next year will be super busy! I should do some work - I also have a podcast episode to edit!
